Letter carving is a practice that has been around for centuries. It was passed on to us by the Romans who designed letters using a brush forming the classical written characters we know today.
The art of Lettering involves using chisels and a mallet to incise letters into the material, creating a play of light and shadow. Cutting letters in wood is distinct from wood carving and distinct even from letter carving in stone, as the materials behave differently. It is an exercise in precision, but its beauty is born from the fact that the no two letters will turn out exactly the same.
